Letter from our CEO

My WHYs: I am an immigrant myself from Togo which is a small country located in West Africa. French is the language spoken in Togo. I moved to the United States in 2008 when I was 8 months pregnant with my first child. My child was born less than a month after I moved in. Having my first child born here in a new country was a very different experience. I remember how hard it was for me to navigate the resources here which top with language barrier. Being aware of the struggles our newcomers are facing and knowing that the language is the biggest barrier for their integration, I have decided to found AKWAABA QC. What is AKWAABA QC?: AKWAABA QC which means WELCOME QUAD CITIES is a nonprofit organization led by immigrants who share the same linguistic and cultural background of the community they served. AKWAABA QC’s mission is to welcome immigrants, refugees, migrants and Asylum seekers in the Quad Cities and provide them with necessary information through the Community Navigators model for their full integration. The vision of AKWAABA QC is to bring the diverse Quad Cities community together through outreach, education, collaboration and partnership with Stakeholders, legislators, businesses, Community leaders and community members with an ultimate goal to commit and distinguish the Quad Cities as a “beloved community” – one that holds equity, inclusion, and caring in our hearts and that brings unity and compassion to life through action. Therefore, I am asking everyone, including our community partners and legislators to join us on this effort because Together, We Can Make A Difference!!! Thanks!
